Born in Tokyo, Japan, Haruka spent her childhood split between New York, London and Tokyo. She dreamed of becoming a professional actor since she was a child and attended youth theatre schools both in London and in Tokyo before training at Rose Bruford College, a prestigious drama school in London.
Based in London, Haruka enjoys working on a diverse range of projects and roles in the fields of film, TV, theatre and voice-over.

幼い頃から俳優を志し、ロンドンの演劇教室や東京の児童劇団（劇団ひまわり）に通った後、イギリスの名門ローズ・ブルフォード演劇学校に進学。
バイリンガル俳優として活動拠点であるロンドンを中心に映画やドラマ、舞台、声優など幅広く国際的に活動を続ける。
Haruka plays the female lead Akiko in Paramount Pictures’ ‘Snake Eyes’. She is one of the original cast of Royal Shakespeare Company’s “My Neighbour Totoro“ which premiered in London and have won 6 Olivier Awards including the Best Entertainment Play and Best Direction.
She currently provides the speaking voice of Noodle, the guitarist of the virtual band Gorillaz.
Her other notable credits include Tarsem Singh's ‘Emerald City’ (NBC) as Po, Russell T Davies' ‘Cucumber’ (Channel 4) as Anna, ‘Kiss Me First’ (Netflix/Channel4) as Tippi, ‘Cyberbully’ (Channel 4) as Jennifer (Guardian review: “Maisie Williams carries almost the full weight of the hour on her shoulders …The standout performance, though, comes from Haruka Abe as Jennifer Li….Between the two main actors and the directorial torque applied, it’s a desperately sad, fantastically menacing, wholly destabilising hour“), ‘Giri/Haji’ (Netflix/BBC) as Suzume, ‘Silent Witness’ (BBC) as Akito and the BAFTA winning, world’s first interactive feature film/video game ‘Late Shift’ as May-Ling. Haruka starred in the music video for Clean Bandit’s Grammy winning single ‘Rather Be’ which has been viewed over seven hundred million times to date.
